Bid Development Worksheet These are some questions I need you to answer before I get started on a website bid. Many of these questions guide you through the planning process needed to have a successful website. Not all the information is critical for the bid–but all of it is critical to planning an effective website. Answer those questions that you can. I will call you after I receive your answers to clarify details and discuss any questions you were unable to answer. A. What is the purpose of your website? There are nine basic purposes for a website (feel free to add in any additional ideas): 1. improve/increase your business’ image/visibility 2. Attract new customers in local area 3. Attract new customers outside local area 4. Better serve current customers 5. Compliment business advertising 6. Start a new venture online 7. Sell product/service 8. Use website as an online brochure for business 9. Provide educational content/resources 10. Other ______________________________________ Of those above, identify one primary purpose and as many secondary purposes as you like: Primary Secondary B. Target Markets Define whom you are trying to reach. It may be more than one market. Identify one as primary and any others as secondary: Primary Secondary C. Business Strategic Goals Related to Website Over the next 2 years, how do you want your website to help you achieve business goals over next 2 years? (This may be very similar to your primary website purpose). How does your website fit into your business “down the road”? D. Logistics Hosting company: If you don’t have one write now, just write “none.” Domain: If you do not have one yet, let me know your ideas: Timeline for website: Do you have a rough timeline at this point? E. Marketing What marketing methods were you planning on using? If you are unsure, I can suggest some based on your purpose and objectives. F. Design Questions Do you have any logo or design elements you want included on the website? Any colors you want to use? Do you have samples? Do you have any colors you definitely do NOT want to use? Do you have a preference for using photographs in your design? Yes No Note: There is an additional cost for Web noxious to provide photos. We can provide or take photos needed for a site. If you do want photos, do you have your own photos to use in the design? Details. URLS: Are there sites you like features of? Sites you dislike features/design/layout of? Please list the URLs and what you like or dislike about them. This helps in determining the design philosophies you prefer. Dislike: Like: Find 3 sites that are noncompetitors, outside your field of practice or business; then 3 sites that are competitors – for these sites you may not like everything about the design, but overall you like it. This helps tremendously in defining your design style. We realize it may take quite a bit of time, but it is well spent time. Email us for a list of sites to browse if you are difficulty. (6 total sites minimum) Homepage Content: Homepage content can range from brief couple of sentences to several paragraphs. It is important to keep white space no more than 40% to give an easy to navigate and purposeful first impression on the homepage. The inside pages of a site can carry out successfully more content than the homepage. When designing the homepage the length of content is a consideration. Please list two URLs from either your like or dislike list (or another page) that represent the length of homepage content you envison: 1. 2. Additional ones are fine to list too. If unsure, leave blank. Tone/Atmosphere/Impression: What words come to mind to describe the site you envision for your business? Yes, professional :-), but is that the only one? Perky, bold, forthcoming, trendy, traditional, cutting edge, spunky ... I am trying to get a feel for the atmosphere you want to create on your site. This is the same as if you go to a new restaurant and describe it to a friend the next day. You talk about the food and service, but you also describe the atmosphere, décor, style, etc. A web site can be described the same way. Updating: how do you plan to maintain and update the site? Will you hire someone to do this? Will someone be trained on how to do this? G. Major Site Areas Please, circle those areas below you want to include. You can rename them if you have a different title in mind. Also, write out any details about the area, such as if you have plans to include graphics, animations. The length of content to be included is important—for each area selected, do you envision one paragraph, one page, or ten pages? Some of the listed areas can sometimes be listed as sub-areas of larger site sections. Anything along these lines is fine. The more details you can include, the more the bid will reflect the site you envision. Details it would help to mention include: • Content length and complexity • Graphics (whether they need to be scanned, optimized, or created) • Animations • Programming (online meeting/chat area, message boards, tests/quizzes, file sharing, online registration for conferences) • Shopping cart Home page About Company/Mission/Bio/Resume Welcome Nutrition Resources/Articles/Links (geared for public or professionals) FAQs Contact Us Products/Services Shopping Cart How many items do you anticipate opening with? Do you want to be able to change product descriptions or prices? (note: there is an additional cost for this ability) Have you decided on how you will accept payments? (possibilities: Paypal, finding a credit card approval service, processing yourself) Portfolio Privacy Statement Map to Office Costs Staff Newsletter page for new articles, discounts, etc. Please list other areas you want included on your site and give descriptions of what is to go there.
